On Saturday the 25th of October 2003, Pell Hanshi was invited back to Combat Magazine's Hall Of Fame for a second time to receive a special award. Pell Hanshi was accompanied by 35 of his students representing Ishin Ryu Ju-Jitsu Honbu, Borehamwood, Harrow, Bushey, Thetford and Leeds. The students were impeccably turned out, with the lads dressed in black DJ's and burgundy bow ties, and the women in their evening dresses ready for a splendid evening. Following a first class meal, it was into the presentations with speeches from our host, Combat Magazine's editor, Paul Clifton. Towards the end of the presentations, Pell Hanshi was called up to receive a beautiful trophy inscribed with the words "Kevin Pell, Guardian Of The Martial Arts" to a rapturous applause. Pell Hanshi then made a short speech (it's great to see him looking so nervous), before having his photographs taken. It was then into the Cabaret and a chance for everyone to relax and unwind, before being picked up by the limo at 1:00AM. All the students met up back at the Hotel for a late nightcap, which didn't finish until 4:00AM, a great end to a great evening. In closing Pell Hanshi would like to personally thank all of his students for attending and making this a very special evening to remember for many years to come, and a special thanks to Combat Magazine and Mr. Paul Clifton the Editor, for yet another totally professional and enjoyable evening.

Hi Hanshi,

Just a very quick note to say congratulations on your award for "Guardian of the Martial Arts" at the weekend and thanks very much for inviting me along.
It was a privilege to be there and support you on such a prestigious occasion. I had a great evening and thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was good to see so many senior grades there, it seems to me that where ever we go we are always in great company.

Look forward seeing you on Tuesday,
Best Regards,

Mark Thomas Sempai
