Paul Martynski Sensei

I was born in Cuckfield, in West Sussex in 1988 where I lived until I was 8. I moved to Fenstanton in 1996, just west of Cambridge where I now teach judo.

I started judo when I was 10 years old in 1998 at Fenstanton Primary School. This club was organised and run by the then Sensei Patrick Swallow, at the time a 4th Dan. The club, though being small in size and attendance, enthused me to pursue judo due to Renshi Swallow’s huge enthusiasm and passion he put into his teaching.

The Kanazawa Budo club was part of the Tokushima Budo Council and also had another club running in Huntingdon Medway Centre, which I also began to attend when I achieved my orange belt. There I met now Sensei Leeanne who has been my demonstration and practise partner for a number of years.

I now attended both clubs, still run by Patrick Swallow Renshi and also Scott Thurston Sensei (2nd Dan). Having attained my black belt (Shodan) in April 2006 I now help and assist in teaching at both clubs for 4 hours a week. Other clubs run by Swallow Renshi and Thurston Sensei are the St. Ivo Club, Stukely Meadows club and the newly opened Ramsey Club. Since we changed associations in early 2006 to become part of the Ishin Ryu Ju-Jitsu association, the clubs have grown and gone from strength to strength. In my 8 years I have also tried Ju-Jitsu, Aikido and Hapkido, but remained loyal to my judo.
