I was born in 1963 in the small Nottinghamshire village of Bunny. I am married to Michelle and we have two boys, Ben and George. I work as a construction plant operator in the civil engineering and earthworks side of the construction industry. In 1983 I enlisted in to the Territorial Army, and served with the Royal Anglican Regiment, where ironically we seemed to spend a lot of time flying in helicopters from Watton into the training area at Thetford. I first started training in ju-jitsu in 1986 with the B.J.J.F and later due to politics the unmentionable federation. During this period I attained the grade of purple belt often training three to four nights a week. Late in 1987 I embarked on a career of long distance lorry driving, so I am sad to say ju-jitsu went on the back burner for a while. During my sabbatical I did get to indulge into my second passion, the sport of motor-cross, and with some success gained my 500cc experts plates. |
I recommenced Ju-Jitsu in 1997 and was awarded the grade of Shodan in June 2001.
On my return to ju-jitsu I was saddened to see how much things had become watered down, so the discovery of Ishin Ryu and Soke Kevin pell was a breath of fresh air.
Since my return to the martial arts, I have studied a great deal into the workings of W. E. Fairbairn and also the fighting system of krav maga, incorporating many of their techniques into the extensive syllabus that we teach.
Being a practical person I am only Interested in teaching practical techniques, hence we are known as Practical Ju-jitsu Academies. We have a club in Melton Mowbray. If you would like more information, or would like to have a club in your area (south notts/north leics) please feel free to contact the national coach
