Message: Hello Soke Kevin and the Ishin Ryu organisation.

A quick note from Australia. It is very hot out here at the moment. On a sad note a fine gentleman named Kyoshi John Lee JONES recently passed away. He was a direct descendant of Dr A.J. ROSS who started the first Judo and Ju Jitsu School in Australia which was in the city of Brisbane in 1926. Kyoshi was an 8th Dan. He was a great friend of our Chief Instructor Shihan Reg ELLIS and the Sakura Ryu School. He officiated on many Sakura Ryu black belt gradings. I hope this message finds you all in good health and especially training hard.

Just catching up with all the news on the web site, full of highs as always and some lows this time, my condolences for the loss of another Sensei, Leighton Jenkins Hanshi. Great report on the Induction weekend, I will definitely be there for the next one. What a superb report from Sheila Eglen Sempai, there have been previous and no doubt will be future testimonials and thank you letters from students but it's not until you step into that arena on that fateful day can you truly understand the emotional roller coaster that is a Shodan Ho grading. Brilliant report Sheila.

Message: Oussa Soke,

I have just watched the DVD of Bill and Eddie grading and seen the disc of photographs which Jane sent out to Afghanistan for me. I was impressed with the effort, spirit and emotion shown by the lads as they were put through their paces on the day. A couple of weeks ago I heard that they had passed by text, then emails and was so proud of them. Now watching the DVD, I am extremely proud and they should be too. I know it is a day they will never forget.

Please accept my personal thanks and pass it on to; Teresa, Renshi Trevor, Stephen and Mark, Sensei Laura and Andy for making the lads work, encouragement and support throughout the day. I know this will have helped the lads and is appreciated by me. I would also like to thank the St Athan crowed; The Culls, The Hodges, Jamie and Dan for travelling to Honbu to support the lads.

Once again, thank you to all who took part, I wish I could have been there!

I found your site a few months back on recommendation of a friend who goes to your Thetford club, and read through a load of your articles on seminars and such. I have to say, I was very impressed with the stories your people have to tell about their art, and was sad to see that the site had not changed much since I found it.

I was told on Thursday though, that you had begun writing more articles, and have just spent the last few hours reading and admiring the last few months of jujitsu life. I feel real, solid congratulations are in order to the instructors and members of your art for such riveting reads!

Message: Today (Sat 11th Feb) is a historic day for Lisa Johnson (15) and Jess Kent (14) from Thetford Dojo as they attend their first SENIOR GRADE TRAINING DAY at Honbu. Wow!

Lisa looked a bit worried this morning when getting her bag ready - when asked why she said "Had I seen how Dad (Vearnon Johnson) came back from a Senior Grade Training Day!!!" - but she was smiling & laughing when they left in the car.

The girls achievement is in no small part down to the teaching, guidance and motivation given by Renshi Trevor Steward. His belief has helped them to reach this milestone - the youngest girls in Ishin Ryu to reach Adult Brown Belt grade and the youngest girls to attend a Senior Grade Training Day. Thank you Trevor for everything.

Lisa & Jess you should be proud of what you have achieved so far - I know I am.

I saw your web site and thought I would just drop a short line to you.

Congratulations on your achievement, from a fellow female Ju-Jitsu.

Message: Dear Soke,

I train at a Judo group which seems to be a less traditional group and doesn't stay true to the training and the teachings of Prof. Jigoro Kano. It seems some what of a let down to know that I am not being taught the whole syllabus. When entering any Dojo which belongs to the Ishin Ryu Ju-Jitsu Federation, it feels that you will be taught the whole syllabus.

What I am attempting to ask is how can I find a new judo group that will teach the whole syllabus?

Look forward to meeting you in the near future

Yours in martial arts

Hi Kevin,
I received my book of cards today, they're great, I am showing them to my girls, and maybe later I'll take them through a few moves.
there's one move I have always liked that I learnt at Ju-Jitsu, when someone grabs your jacket or shirt at the opening and you proceed to walk backwards fast and make them stammer to keep up, then quickly turn to lose they're grip. It's an easy one, but hey - that's what its all about, as it says in your book - quick and easy moves.
Well thanks for my book, it's been done well, the artwork and the details of the moves etc, well done to you sir.
I look forward to your DVD next.

Thanks again Kevin.

Message: Hi, I used to live near the RAF Leeming base about 8 years ago, and so far after so long of looking this is the first webpage I have come across that has giving me any information on how my old home is doing.

I used to attend the junior school just up the road from the base and would have been in the class of 1999 if I was not moved when in year four. I am now in year 12 in a school in Kent. As this Ju-Jitsu club is based on the RAF base, maybe anyone who attends your class might know my dad who worked there -Paul Owens- also know by his mates as Berti. Cheers and all the best.

Message: Oussa Soke,

I would like to offer my congratulations to Sensei Trevor for the massive success of the throwing marathon on Sunday. Not only was over ten thousand pounds raised towards the Tsunami Appeal, but true Ishin Ryu spirit was demonstrated by all that took part. Life throws difficulties in the path of anyone's' life, but the Ishin Ryu student will have the inner strength to get back up again....
and again....
and again....
and again....
This was demonstrated quite accurately on Sunday, well done to all the adults and children who took part.

Message: Although my aches and bruises have not yet gone I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Sensei Trevor for the fantastic job he did of organizing the 12 hour hip throw marathon. It was a great, if somewhat gruelling, day and it meant a lot to me on a personal level because I was working last year in some of the communities that were devastated by the tsunami. I have enormous respect for the amount of work that Sensei put in to coordinating everything and making the day such a success and on behalf of the Thetford dojo I would like to offer our congratulations.

Cheers Sensei - it is a privilege to train under you

Thank you very much indeed for hosting the kick boxing course - it was a fantastic seminar. There was a real sense of camaraderie and I feel that this spirit is something that is unique to Ishin Ryu - I have certainly not encountered it in any of the other martial art clubs that I have trained with. On days like Sunday it is easy to see why you work so hard to encourage the team spirit!

Thanks again
Take care and best wishes
