| General Information | For over 175 years, the "Brothers of the Sacred Heart" have provided high quality education for boys. A tradition of academic excellence is matched by a commitment to develop a full, rounded personality within a Catholic environment. Founded in Lyon in 1821 the religious order continues this tradition today in schools across the world. The New England Providence of the Brothers re-founded St Columba's College in 1955. Originally opened in 1939 to meet the need for a catholic independent school in St Albans, the college rapidly grew under the Brothers' direction, with an extensive building programme during the 1960's. The college is a fully accredited, independent, selective school for 500 boys aged 11 to 18; the prep school occupies its own building on site and accommodates 200 boys aged 4 to 11. Geographically our students are attracted from a wide area across north London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. The school Ju-Jitsu Club was founded in March 2000 by Kevin Pell Hanshi, the National Coach for Great Britain, and Mark Hayden-Smith Renshi, the National Coach for Children. The Club continues to thrive, enjoying full classes and a healthy waiting list. | ||||||||
