I hope that everyone enjoyed their summer holidays! I know that August is traditionally a holiday period but this year it seemed to me that almost the entire club was off during all or part of the month. It was so quiet and I'm glad that's not the norm. This month is a transition period as I am moving students around into new classes based on their ability, age and where I feel that it will be of benefit to the individual to train amongst an older class. More details next month on who's made the big move.

For those of you who came along during the last month, we spent time on some of the more technical aspects of moves previously taught. For example lifting your hips and bottom off the floor in ground strangles number 3 instead of relying on your partner jumping off!!

We also learnt to do a correct front break fall without landing on your hands and hurting your wrists and I think everyone can now perform a mean Ishin Ryu front break fall.

Also last month we had our yearly course in Thetford Norfolk, once again Soke continues to deliver a wonderful array of different kinds of martial arts and bringing them all together under one roof enabling us all to expand our martial arts knowledge.

We all experienced the different techniques that were taught on the two days by the many talented instructors, I would like to thank them personally for the experience. I was not able to train with all of the instructors that I would have liked to but there is always next year. I would also like to thank all our affiliated students who without the course would not be the same. It was heart warming to see the camaraderie of all who attended was again proving that Ju-Jitsu is body mind and soul.

I would just like to end by thanking Soke for allowing me the honour of teaching at the course, I think I get just as much out of teaching as I hope the students that come on to my tatami do.

I would like to mention Sadeysa one of my intermediates who since school has worked for the notting hill carnival and now works for the company who designs and makes the costumes.

They are called Mahogany carnival art, and they work all year round on all carnivals, theatre and stages all around the world. This year's costume band is called "freedom song". As this is the bi-century year of the abolition of slavery in Britain their costume band is celebrating black people and their history and artistry presenting the problems black people have had to overcome. There is about 7 different costume section with two being children's sections I have picked out my favorite pictures from this year's selection each with its own conception story behind it.

The costumes are all handmade, and fitted to each costumer, by a large team of professional, trainee, work experience and volunteer every year notting hill carnival. We have students from our infant classes and intermediates that all took part. Savannah, Koya and Vistra all wore costumes and Mayu wore her costume on kiddie's day. Loads of fun was had and it was lovely to see all of the wonderful costumes on the photos.

See you next month!
